حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي حَنْظَلَةُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ: «أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَانَا أَنْ نُكْرِيَ أَرْضَنَا» وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ذَهَبٌ وَلَا فِضَّةٌ وَكُنَّا نُكْرِي أَرْضَنَا عَلَى الرُّبُعِ وَاللَّامَعْلُومَةِ فَرُبَّمَا هَلَكَ ذَا وَسَلِمَ ذَا
Hanzalah bin Qays (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him): "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from renting out our land." At that time there was no gold or silver (in use), and we used to rent out our land for a quarter and for an unspecified share; then sometimes this would be lost and that would survive.
