Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 4318 — from Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij; he said

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ دُحَيْمٌ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ أَعْيَنٍ، قَالَا: ثنا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ، قَالَ: «كُنَّا نُكْرِي الْأَرْضَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْمَاذِيَانَاتِ وَأَقْبَالِ الْجَدَاوِلِ فَيَهْلِكُ هَذَا وَيُسَلِّمُ هَذَا، فَنَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ»
Hanzalah bin Qays (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: "In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to rent out land in return for (the produce on) the banks of the water channels and the heads of the streams; then sometimes this would be lost and that would survive. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from that."
