حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا دُحَيْمٌ ح، وَحَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ، ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ صَيَّادٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ صَاحِبَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، كَيْفَ كَانَتِ الضَّحَايَا فِيكُمْ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: «كَانَ الرَّجُلُ فِي عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يُضَحِّي بِالشَّاةِ عَنْهُ وَعَنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ، فَيَأْكُلُونَ وَيُطْعِمُونَ، مِنْهَا ثُمَّ تَبَاهَى النَّاسُ فَكَانَ كَمَا تَرَى»
Ata' bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I asked Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), the Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): How were the sacrifices among you in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), a man would sacrifice a single sheep on behalf of himself and his household; then they would eat from it themselves and feed others as well. Then people began to boast to one another, and the matter became as you see.
