حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثنا اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْخَيْرِ، عَنْ أَبِي رُهْمٍ السَّمَاعِيُّ، أَنَّ أَبَا أَيُّوبَ حَدَّثَهُ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَزَلَ فِي بَيْتِهِ الْأَسْفَلِ، وَكُنْتُ فِي الْغُرْفَةِ فَأُهْرِيقَ مَاءٌ فِي الْغُرْفَةِ، فَقُمْتُ أَنَا وَأُمُّ أَيُّوبَ بِقَطِيفَةٍ لَنَا نَتَّبِعُ الْمَاءَ شَفَقَةً أَنْ يَخْلُصَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَنَزَلَتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَأَنَا مُشْفِقٌ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَيْسَ يَنْبَغِي أَنْ نَكُونَ فَوْقَكَ، انْتَقِلْ إِلَى الْغُرْفَةِ، فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَتَاعِهِ فَنُقِلَ، وَمَتَاعُهُ قَلِيلٌ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كُنْتُ تُرْسِلُ إِلَيْنَا بِالطَّعَامِ فَأُبْصِرُ فِيهِ، فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُ أَثَرَ أَصَابِعِكَ وَضَعْتُ يَدَيَّ فِيهِ، حَتَّى كَانَ هَذَا الطَّعَامُ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتَ بِهِ إِلَيَّ، فَنَظَرْتُ فِيهِ فَلَمْ أَرَ أَثَرَ أَصَابِعِكَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَجَلْ إِنَّ فِيهِ بَصَلًا، وَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ آكُلَهُ مِنْ أَجْلِ الْمَلَكِ الَّذِي يَأْتِينِي، وَأَمَّا أَنْتُمْ فَكُلُوهُ»
Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed in the lower part of his house, while I was in the upper room. Some water was spilled in the upper room, so Umm Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with her) and I got up with a velvet sheet of ours and kept following the water (to dry it), fearing that it might reach the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then, full of apprehension, I went down to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, it is not proper that we should be above you; move to the upper room. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave orders concerning his belongings and they were moved, and his belongings were few. Then I said: O Messenger of Allah, you used to send food to us and I would look into it, and whenever I saw the marks of your fingers I would put my hands there, until this food came which you sent to me; I looked into it and did not see any mark of your fingers. the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, there is onion in it, and I disliked eating it because of the angel who comes to me; but as for you, eat it."
