Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 3822 — On the day of the Battle of Yarmuk I saw

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الرَّازِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ، ثنا الْمُنْذِرُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ يَوْمَ الْيَرْمُوكِ يَرْمِي بَيْنَ هَدَفَيْنِ وَمَعَهُ رِجَالٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: وَقَالَ: «أُمِرْنَا أَنْ نُعَلِّمَهُ أَوْلَادَنَا الرَّمْيَ وَالْقُرْآنَ»
Qays bin Abi Hazim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: On the day of the Battle of Yarmuk I saw Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) shooting arrows between two targets, and with him were some men from among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "We have been commanded to teach our children archery and the Qur'an."
