Imam al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said concerning Sayyiduna Khabbab bin al-Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him): There was no one who did not give the polytheists what they demanded on the day they tortured them, except Sayyiduna Khabbab bin al-Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him); they would lay him down on heated stones, yet they could not get anything out of him. The narrator said: Then his shroud was brought, and white Egyptian cloth was spread over it, and he wept. The people said: O Abu Abdullah, what makes you weep when you are a Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: "I remembered Sayyiduna Mus'ab bin Umayr (may Allah be pleased with him). He did not hasten to take any of his good things (in this world). He was shrouded in a single cloak; nothing else could be found to shroud him in. When we covered his head, his feet were exposed, and when we covered his feet, his head was exposed, until we placed idhkhir grass and plants of the earth over him."
