Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 3622 — We went in to visit Sayyiduna Khabbab

Qays bin Abi Hazim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We went in to visit Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) in his illness, and he had had himself cauterised seven times. He said: Our companions who went before us have passed away; they departed and the world took nothing from them, while we, after them, have acquired that for which we find no place except the earth. The narrator said: Then after that we came to visit him again while he was building a wall of his, and he said: "The Muslim is rewarded for everything he spends except what he puts into the earth, and had the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) not forbidden us to wish for death, I would have wished for it."
