Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I watched the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) closely in a prayer that he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed until it was the time of dawn. Then, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) concluded his prayer with salam, Khabbab stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! May my father and mother be ransomed for you, you prayed tonight a prayer the like of which I have never seen before? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, it was a prayer of hope and fear. In it I asked my Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, for three things; He granted me two and withheld one from me. I asked Him not to destroy us in the way He destroyed the nations before us, and He granted me that. I asked Him not to make any enemy from other than them prevail over us, and He granted me that. And I asked Him not to split us into sects, and He withheld that from me."
