حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلُ، ثنا صَالِحُ بْنُ أَبِي الْأَخْضَرِ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَتَى عُمَرُ عَلَى حَسَّانَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، وَهُوَ يَنْشُدُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ: هَهُنَا؟ فَقَالَ: قَدْ كُنْتُ أَنْشُدُ فِيهِ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْكَ، فَوَلَّى عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ خَشْيَةَ أَنْ يَقُولَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ حَسَّانُ عَلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، فَقَالَ: أَنْشُدُكَ اللهَ أَتَعْلَمُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «يَا حَسَّانُ أَجِبْ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ اللهُمَّ أَيِّدْهُ بِرُوحِ الْقُدُسِ» ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sayyiduna Umar came to Sayyiduna Hassan bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with them both) while he was reciting poetry in the mosque, and he said: Here? Hassan said: I used to recite poetry here in the presence of one who was better than you. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) feared that he would cite the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he turned away. Then Hassan turned to Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: I adjure you by Allah, do you know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Hassan, answer on behalf of the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, strengthen him with the Holy Spirit (Ruh al-Qudus)"? He said: Yes.
