Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 3521 — Sayyiduna Habib bin Maslamah al-Qurashi

حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَلُولٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمُقْرِئُ، ثنا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مُلَيْلٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ الضَّمْرِيِّ، أَنَّ حَبِيبَ بْنَ مَسْلَمَةَ الْقُرَشِيَّ لَقِيَ قَيْسَ بْنَ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ وَهُوَ عَلَى فَرَسٍ فَتَأَخَّرَ حَبِيبُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، عَنِ السُّرُجِ، وَقَالَ لِقَيْسٍ: ارْكَبْ، فَقَالَ قَيْسُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «صَاحِبُ الدَّابَّةِ أَحَقُّ بِصَدْرِهَا» ، فَقَالَ حَبِيبٌ: إِنِّي لَا أَجْهَلُ مَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: وَلَكِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكَ

Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Umayyah al-Damri (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Sayyiduna Habib bin Maslamah al-Qurashi (may Allah be pleased with him) met Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) while he (Habib) was riding a horse. Habib bin Maslamah moved back from the saddle and said to Qays: Mount. Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The owner of a mount has more right to its front." Sayyiduna Habib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It is not that I am unaware of what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said; rather, I fear for your life.
