Junadah bin Abi Umayyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We camped at Dabiq, and Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) was our commander. Then news reached Sayyiduna Habib bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Bannah, the ruler of Cyprus, had set out heading for the road to Azerbaijan, with emeralds, rubies, pearls, gold and silk brocade with him, and he was accompanied by horsemen. So he killed him and brought what he had with him. Abu Ubaydah wanted to take the khums (one-fifth) from it, but Habib said: Do not deprive me of provision that Allah has granted me, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) assigned the salab (the slain enemy's belongings) to the one who killed him. Then Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Habib, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "A man gets only that with which his leader is pleased."
