Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when Sayyiduna Harmalah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him and sat down in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Faith is here (and he pointed with his hand to his tongue), and hypocrisy is here (and he pointed with his hand to his chest), and he remembers Allah only a little. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent at this, so he repeated it again and again, and Harmalah then fell silent. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of the tip of Harmalah's tongue and said: "O Allah, grant him a truthful tongue and a grateful heart, grant him love of me and love of those who love me, and turn his affair towards good." Harmalah said: O Messenger of Allah! I have some brothers who are hypocrites, and I was a leader among them; shall I not point them out to you? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No. Whoever comes to us as you have come to us, we will seek forgiveness for him just as we sought forgiveness for you; and whoever persists in his sin, then Allah has more right over his affair. And do not tear away anyone's covering."
