Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 3078 — from Hakim bin Hizam that the Messenger

Urwah bin al-Zubayr narrated from Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The upper hand is better than the lower hand. Let each of you begin with those in his care. The best charity is that which is given out of surplus wealth. Whoever refrains from asking, Allah will keep him chaste; and whoever seeks to be self-sufficient, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will make him self-sufficient."
