حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الْمُؤَدِّبُ، حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ، عَنْ بَيَانِ بْنِ بِشْرٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ أَسِيدٍ الْغِفَارِيِّ، قَالَ: «كُنَّا نُضَحِّي الْأُضْحِيَّةَ الْوَاحِدَةَ، فَزَعَمُوا أَنَّمَا يَمْنَعُنا مِنْ ذَلِكَ الشُّحُّ، فَحَمَلُونَا عَلَى تَرْكِ السُّنَّةِ بَعْدَ أَنْ عَرَفْنَاهَا»
Al-Sha'bi narrates from Hudhayfah bin Asid al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: We used to offer a single sacrifice, then people thought that it was stinginess holding us back from more, and they pushed us into abandoning the Sunnah after we had known it.
