حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ بَيَانٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ سَرِيحَةَ أَوْ أَبِي سَرِيحَةَ - شَكَّ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ - قَالَ: «حَمَلَنِي أَهْلِي عَلَى الْجَفَاءِ بَعْدَ مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنَ السُّنَّةِ، كَانَ أَهْلُ الْبَيْتِ يُضَحُّونَ بِالشَّاةِ أَوِ الشَّاتَيِنِ، فَالْآنَ يُبَخِّلُنَا جِيرَانُنَا»
Sarihah or Abu Sarihah (the narrator Abd al-Razzaq was unsure) said: My family drew me away from the Sunnah even though I knew it. Formerly a household would sacrifice one goat or two, and now our neighbours call us misers.
