حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْجُوزَجَانِيُّ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ عَقِيلٍ، ثنا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ الْأَخْنَسِ بْنِ شَرِيقٍ حَلِيفِ بَنِي زُهْرَةَ أَنَّ أَبَا جَهْلٍ اعْتَرَضَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالصَّفَا فَآذَاهُ، وَكَانَ حَمْزَةُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ صَاحِبَ قَنْصٍ وَصَيْدٍ، وَكَانَ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي قَنْصِهِ، فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ قَالَتْ لَهُ امْرَأَتُهُ، وَكَانَتْ قَدْ رَأَتْ مَا صَنَعَ أَبُو جَهْلٍ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: يَا أَبَا عُمَارَةَ، لَوْ رَأَيْتَ مَا صَنَعَ - تَعْنِي أَبَا جَهْلٍ - بِابْنِ أَخِيكَ؟ فَغَضِبَ حَمْزَةُ، وَمَضَى كَمَا هُوَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ بَيْتَهُ، وَهُوَ مُعَلِّقٌ قَوْسَهُ فِي عُنُقِهِ حَتَّى دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ، فَوَجَدَ أَبَا جَهْلٍ فِي مَجْلِسٍ مِنْ مَجَالِسِ قُرَيْشٍ، فَلَمْ يُكَلِّمْهُ حَتَّى عَلَا رَأْسَهُ بِقَوْسِهِ فَشَجَّهُ، فَقَامَ رِجَالٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ إِلَى حَمْزَةَ يُمْسِكُونَهُ عَنْهُ، فَقَالَ حَمْزَةُ: «دِينِي دِينُ مُحَمَّدٍ، أَشْهَدُ أَنَّهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ، فَوَاللهِ لَا أَنْثَنِي عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَامْنَعُونِي مَنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ» . فَلَمَّا أَسْلَمَ حَمْزَةُ عَزَّ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالْمُسْلِمُونَ، وَثَبَتَ لَهُمْ بَعْضُ أَمْرِهِمْ وهابَتْهُ قُرَيْشٌ، وَعَلِمُوا أَنَّ حَمْزَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ سَيَمْنَعُهُ
Ya'qub bin Utbah bin al-Mughirah bin al-Akhnas bin Shariq (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Abu Jahl confronted the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at Safa and harmed him. Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) was fond of hunting and game, and that day he was out hunting. When he returned, his wife, who had seen what Abu Jahl had done to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), said to him: "O Abu Umarah! If only you had seen what he, meaning Abu Jahl, did to your nephew!" At this Hamzah became furious and set off just as he was, before entering his house, with his bow hanging from his neck, until he entered the Masjid (al-Haram). He found Abu Jahl in one of the gatherings of Quraysh, and without saying a word he struck him on the head with his bow and wounded him. Some men of Quraysh stood up to restrain Hamzah, and Hamzah said: "My religion is the religion of Muhammad. I bear witness that he is the Messenger of Allah. By Allah! I will never turn back from it. Stop me from it, if you are truthful." When Hamzah accepted Islam, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Muslims gained honour and strength through him, part of their affair became firm, Quraysh began to fear him, and they knew that Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) would protect him.
