Muhammad bin al-Hasan said: When Umar bin Sa'd encamped against Husayn, and Husayn became certain that they would kill him, he stood up among his companions to deliver a sermon. He praised and glorified Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and then said: "The matter you see has now befallen us. Indeed, the world has changed and become estranged, its goodness has turned its back, and it has continued like this until nothing of it remains except what is like the dregs left at the bottom of a vessel, except a wretched life like a poisonous pasture. Do you not see that the truth is not acted upon, and falsehood is not restrained? The believer should long to meet Allah. And I see death as nothing but felicity, and life with the oppressors as nothing but hardship." And Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred on the day of Ashura, in the year 61 AH, at al-Taff in Karbala. At that time he was wearing a dark-coloured cloak of khazz (silk blend), his hair was dyed black, and he was 56 years old.
