حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الضَّبِّيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ، أَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ هَانِي بْنِ هَانِي، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: لَمَّا وُلِدَ الْحَسَنُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: «أَرُونِي ابْنِي مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ؟» فَقُلْتُ: حَرْبًا. فَقَالَ: «بَلْ هُوَ حَسَنٌ» . فَلَمَّا وُلِدَ الْحُسَيْنُ سَمَّيْناهُ حَرْبًا، فَأَتَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: «ائْتُونِي ابْنِي مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ؟» فَقُلْتُ: حَرْبًا. فَقَالَ: «بَلْ هُوَ حُسَيْنٌ» . فَلَمَّا وُلِدَ الثَّالِثُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: «أَرُونِي ابْنِي مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ؟» فَقُلْتُ: حَرْبًا. فَقَالَ: «بَلْ هُوَ مُحَسِّنٌ» . ثُمَّ قَالَ: «إِنِّي سَمَّيْتُهُمْ بِأَسْمَاءِ وَلَدِ هَارُونَ شَبَرَ وَشُبَيْرَ وَمُشَبِّرَ»
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When Sayyiduna al-Hasan was born, I named him Harb. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: "Show me my son. What have you named him?" I said: Harb. He said: "No, rather he is Hasan." Then when Sayyiduna al-Husayn was born, we named him Harb. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: "Bring my son to me. What have you named him?" I said: Harb. He said: "No, rather he is Husayn." Then when the third son was born, I named him Harb. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: "Show me my son. What have you named him?" I said: Harb. He said: "No, rather he is Muhassin." Then he said: "I have named them after the names of the children of Harun (peace be upon him): Shabbar, Shubayr and Mushabbir."
