Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 2745 — Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan

Ali bin Abi Talhah, the freed slave of Banu Umayyah, said: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) performed Hajj, and Mu'awiyah bin Hudayj performed Hajj with him; he was among the people who most reviled Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He passed through the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah while Sayyiduna al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting among a group of his companions. It was said to him: This is Mu'awiyah bin Hudayj, who reviles Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: Bring the man to me. The messenger came to him and said: Come, you are summoned. He said: By whom? He said: Sayyiduna al-Hasan bin Ali is calling you. So he came to him and greeted him with salam. Sayyiduna al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Are you Mu'awiyah bin Hudayj? He said: Yes. He asked him this three times. Then Sayyiduna al-Hasan said to him: The one who reviles Ali? He seemed to feel ashamed. Sayyiduna al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "Listen, by Allah! If you come to him at the Pond - and I do not think you will reach it - you will find him with his lower garment tucked up to his shin, driving away the hypocrites as stray camels are driven away. This is the word of the truthful and confirmed Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and whoever fabricates lies has failed."
