حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصِّينِيُّ، ثنا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يَا أَنَسُ انْطَلِقْ فَادْعُ لِي سَيِّدَ الْعَرَبِ» - يَعْنِي عَلِيًّا - فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا: أَلَسْتَ سَيِّدَ الْعَرَبِ؟ قَالَ: «أَنَا سَيِّدُ وَلَدِ آدَمَ، وَعَلِيٌّ سَيِّدُ الْعَرَبِ» . فَلَمَّا جَاءَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْأَنْصَارِ فَأَتَوْهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ: «يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ، أَلَا أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى مَا إِنْ تَمَسَّكْتُمْ بِهِ لَنْ تَضِلُّوا بَعْدَهُ؟» قَالُوا: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ. قَالَ: «هَذَا عَلِيٌّ فَأَحِبُّوهُ بِحُبِّي، وَكَرِّمُوهُ لِكَرَامَتي، فَإِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَنِي بِالَّذِي قُلْتُ لَكُمْ عَنِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ»
Sayyiduna al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Anas! Go and call the chief of the Arabs to me" - meaning Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Are you not the chief of the Arabs?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am the chief of the children of Adam, and Ali is the chief of the Arabs." When Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for the Ansar, and they came to him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "O company of the Ansar! Shall I not direct you to something which, if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray after it?" They said: "Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is Ali, so love him for the sake of my love, and honour him for the sake of my honour, for Jibril (peace be upon him) commanded me, from Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, with what I have told you."
