حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ مُبَشِّرٍ، قَالَتْ: دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا فِي حَائِطْ مِنْ حَوَائِطِ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ فِيهِ قُبُورٌ قَدْ مَاتُوا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَخَرَج َفَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: «اسْتَعِيذُوا بِاللهِ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ» فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَلِلْقَبْرِ عَذَابٌ؟ فَقَالَ: «نَعَمْ، إِنَّهُمْ يُعَذَّبُونَ فِي قُبُورِهِمْ عَذَابًا يَسْمَعُهُ الْبَهَائِمُ»
Sayyidah Umm Mubashshir (may Allah be pleased with her) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me while I was in one of the orchards of Banu al-Najjar in which there were some graves of people who had died in the Days of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah). He (peace and blessings be upon him) went out, and I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave." I asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Is there punishment in the grave as well?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, they are punished in their graves with a punishment that the animals hear."
