Sayyidah Umm Atiyyah al-Ansariyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: One of the daughters of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wash her with water and lote-tree (leaves), and wash her an odd number of times, three or five, or more than that if you see fit, and put camphor, or some camphor, in the last washing, and when you have finished, inform me." She said: When we finished, we informed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) threw his waist-wrapper to us and said: "Wrap it around her (body) beneath her shroud." She said: We braided the hair of her head into three plaits, the hair of her forehead and the locks on both sides, and then we let them fall behind her.
