حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَأَبُو خَلِيفَةَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ، قَالَا: ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ، ثنا أَيُّوبُ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ: " بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَرَأَ عَلَيْنَا أَنْ لَا تُشْرِكْنَ بِاللهِ شَيْئًا، وَنَهَانَا عَنِ النَّوْحِ، فَقَبَضَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنَّا يَدَهَا، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ فُلَانَةَ أَسْعَدَتْنِي وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَجْزِيَهَا، فَلَمْ يَقُلْ لَهَا شَيْئًا، فَذَهَبَتْ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَتْ قَالَتْ: فَمَا وَفَّتْ مِنَّا امْرَأَةٌ إِلَّا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ وَأُمَّ الْعَلَاءِ وَبِنْتَ أَبِي سَبْرَةَ وَامْرَأَةَ مُعَاذٍ "
Sayyidah Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: We pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited to us that we would not associate anything with Allah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from wailing. A woman among us withdrew her hand and said: O Messenger of Allah! So-and-so helped me in wailing, and I want to repay her. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said nothing to her, so she went away and then came back. Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Not one woman among us fulfilled this pledge except Umm Sulaym, Umm al-Ala', the daughter of Abu Sabrah, and the wife of Mu'adh.
