Abu Murrah, the freed slave of Aqil (may Allah have mercy on him), narrates from Sayyidah Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: I granted protection to two of my in-laws from among the polytheists. Then Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) came to me and lunged at them to kill them, and said: "Do you grant protection to polytheists?" I said: "By Allah! You will not kill them until you begin with me before them." Then he went out, and I said: "Lock the door against him." Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the lower part of al-Thaniyyah, but I did not find him, and I found Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), and she was even harsher with me than her husband. She said: "Why do you grant protection to polytheists?" Until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appeared, wearing a single garment, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Welcome to Fakhitah, Umm Hani." I said: "What have I not suffered from my brother! I had granted protection to two of my in-laws from among the polytheists, and he pounced on them to kill them." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He had no right to do that. We too have granted protection to whomever you granted protection, and given security to whomever you gave security."
