Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 21166 — Ali bin Husayn (may Allah have mercy on)

Kurayb al-Kindi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Ali bin Husayn (may Allah have mercy on him) took me by the hand, and we went to an elderly man of Quraysh called Ibn Abi Hathmah, who was praying facing a pillar. We sat down with him, and when he finished the prayer, Ali said to him: Tell us the hadith of your mother about ruqyah. He said: My mother told me that she used to perform a ruqyah of hers in the Days of Ignorance. When Islam came, she said: I will not perform ruqyah with it until I seek permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So I came to him ((peace and blessings be upon him)) and asked his ((peace and blessings be upon him)) permission, and he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) said: "Perform ruqyah as long as there is no shirk in it."
