حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي بَلْجٍ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ سَمْرَاءَ بِنْتَ نَهِيكٍ، وَكَانَتْ قَدْ أَدْرَكَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «عَلَيْهَا دِرْعٌ غَلِيظٌ، وَخِمَارٌ غَلِيظٌ، بِيَدِهَا سَوْطٌ تُؤَدِّبُ النَّاسَ، وَتَأْمُرُ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ، وَتَنْهَى عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ»
Abu Balj Yahya bin Abi Sulaym said: I saw Sayyidah Samra' bint Nahik (may Allah be pleased with her), who had lived in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). She was wearing a shirt of coarse cloth and a coarse head-covering, and in her hand was a whip with which she disciplined people; she enjoined what is good and forbade what is evil.
