حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، وَعَمْرِو بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، أَنَّهُمَا: كَتَبَا إِلَى سُبَيْعَةَ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ الْأَسْلَمِيَّةِ يَسْأَلَانِهَا: عَنْ أَمْرِهَا، فَكَتَبَتْ إِلَيْهِمَا أَنَّهَا وَضَعَتْ بَعْدَ وَفَاةِ زَوْجِهَا بِخَمْسٍ وَعِشْرِينَ، فَهُيِّأَتْ لِطَلَبِ الْخَيْرِ، فَمَرَّ بِهَا أَبو السَّنَابِلِ بْنُ بَعْكَكٍ، فَقَالَ: قَدْ أَسْرَعْتِ اعْتَدِّي آخِرَ الْأَجَلَيْنِ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا، فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، اسْتَغْفِرْ لِي فَقَالَ: «وَمَا ذَاكَ؟» فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ الْخَبَرَ، فَقَالَ: «إِنْ وَجَدْتِ زَوْجًا صَالِحًا فَتَزَوَّجِي»
Masruq and Amr bin Utbah (may Allah have mercy on them both) wrote to Sayyidah Subay'ah bint al-Harith al-Aslamiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), asking her about her case. She wrote back to them that she had given birth twenty-five (days) after the death of her husband, and then prepared herself to seek good (that is, marriage). Abu al-Sanabil bin Ba'kak passed by her and said: You have hurried; observe the waiting period ('iddah) of the later of the two terms, that is, four months and ten days. (Subay'ah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:) So I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, ask forgiveness for me. He said: "What is that about?" I told him the whole story, and he said: "If you find a righteous husband, then marry."
