حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ حُذَيْفَةَ، يُحَدِّثُ: عَنْ عَمَّتِهِ فَاطِمَةَ، قَالَتْ: عُدْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي نِسَاءٍ وَقَدْ عَلَّقَ السِّقَاءُ يَقْطُرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ شِدَّةِ الْحُمَّى، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَوْ دَعَوْتَ فَذَهَبَ عَنْكَ شِدَّتُهَا فَقَالَ: «أَشَدُّ النَّاسِ بَلَاءً الْأَنْبِيَاءُ، ثُمَّ الصَّالِحُونَ، ثُمَّ الْأَمْثَلُ فَالْأَمْثَلُ»
Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), the paternal aunt of Abu Ubaydah bin Hudhayfah, said: I went with some women to visit the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in his illness, and a water-skin had been hung, dripping water on him (peace and blessings be upon him) because of the severity of the fever. I said: O Messenger of Allah, if only you would supplicate so that its severity would leave you. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The people most severely tested are the prophets, then the righteous, then the next best and the next best (in righteousness)."
