حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ الْعَدَنِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ عُمَرُ لأَسْماءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ سَبَقْنَاكُمْ بِالْهِجْرَةِ، فَقَالَتْ: «أَجَلْ وَاللهِ، لَقَدْ سَبَقْتُمُونَا وَكُنَّا عِنْدَ الْحُفَاةِ الْعُرَاةِ، وَكُنْتُمْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعَلِّمُ جَاهِلَكُمْ، وَيُفَقِّهُ عَالِمَكُمْ، وَيَأْمُرُكُمْ بِمَعَالِي الْأَخْلَاقِ»
Qays bin Abi Hazim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyidah Asma' bint Umays (may Allah be pleased with her): We preceded you in emigration. She said: "Yes, by Allah! You did precede us, but we were among barefoot, unclothed people, while you were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who would teach the ignorant among you, give understanding to the learned among you, and command you to the loftiest morals."
