حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ، وَعَمْرُو بْنُ أَبِي الطَّاهِرِ بْنِ السَّرْحِ الْمِصْرِيَّانِ قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو زَيْدٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الْغِمْرِ، ثنا ضِمَامُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، عَنْ عَقِيلِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ كَانَ مَعَ الْحَجَّاجِ لَمَّا قَتَلَ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ، فَبَعَثَهُ إِلَى أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، فَقَالَ: قُلْ لَهَا: يَقُولُ لَكِ الْحَجَّاجُ: اعْزِلِي مَا كَانَ لَكِ مِنْ مَالٍ عَنْ مَالِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، فَقَالَتْ: أَفْعَلُهَا بِابْنِ أَسْمَاءَ؟ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «يَخْرُجُ مِنْ هَذَا الْحَيِّ مِنْ ثَقِيفٍ رَجُلَانِ، أَحَدُهُمَا يَكْذِبُ، وَالْآخَرُ مُبِيرٌ» فَأَمَّا الْكَذَّابُ فَقَدْ عَرَفْنَاهُ وَمَا أَحْسَبُهُ إِلَّا الْمُبِيرَ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ، فَلَمْ يَكْرَهْ ذَلِكَ "
Aqil bin Khalid (may Allah have mercy on him) relates that when al-Hajjaj killed Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both), his father was with al-Hajjaj. Al-Hajjaj sent him to Sayyidah Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: Tell her: Al-Hajjaj says to you: Separate whatever wealth is yours from the wealth of Abdullah bin al-Zubayr. She said: Should I do this to the son of Asma? I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "From this tribe of Thaqif two men will emerge: one of them will be a liar and the other a destroyer (mubir)." As for the liar, we have already recognised him, and I think that this one (al-Hajjaj) is the destroyer. (Aqil's father said:) So I returned to him (al-Hajjaj) and told him, and he did not dislike it.
