حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْحَلَبِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، قَالَتْ: قَدِمَتْ عَلِيَّ أُمِّي وَهِيَ مُشْرِكَةٌ فِي عَهْدِ قُرَيْشٍ إِذْ عَاهَدُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمُدَّتَهُمْ، فَاسْتَفْتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ: إِنَّ أُمِّي قَدِمَتْ عَلِيَّ وَهِيَ رَاغِبَةٌ أَفَأَصِلُهَا؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ صِلِي أُمَّكِ»
Sayyidah Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: My mother, who was then a polytheist, came to me during the time when Quraysh had made a treaty with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the term of their truce was set. So I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for a ruling. I said: O Messenger of Allah! My mother has come to me and she is hoping (for my kindness); shall I maintain ties with her? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, maintain ties with your mother."
