Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: Ma'iz, a short man wearing a waist-wrap, was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was reclining on a cushion. When he was brought to him, he (peace and blessings be upon him) leaned towards the cushion. Then he (Ma'iz) spoke to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned red, and he realised that he had angered him (peace and blessings be upon him). So he (peace and blessings be upon him) indicated with his hand: Stone him. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a man after him and spoke with him briefly, then said: "Take him away and stone him." So the people rose up. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended the pulpit, praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: "To proceed: whenever we set out in the path of Allah, one of them stays behind and makes a bleating like that of a billy-goat, giving one of the women a little something. Beware! If Allah gives me power over any one of them, I will surely make an example of him."
