حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صُبَيْحٍ الْأَسَدِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَعْلَى، ثنا نَاصِحٌ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ: لَمَّا سَأَلَ أَهْلُ قُبَاءٍ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَبْنِيَ لَهُمْ مَسْجِدًا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لِيَقُومَ بَعْضُكُمْ فَيَرْكَبَ النَّاقَةَ» ، فَقَامَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فَرَكِبَهَا فَحَرَّكَها فَلَمْ تَنْبَعِثْ، فَرَجَعَ فَقَعَدَ فَقَامَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فَرَكِبَهَا فَحَرَّكَها فَلَمْ تَنْبَعِثْ فَرَجَعَ فَقَعَدَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ: «لِيَقُومَ بَعْضُكُمْ فَيَرْكَبَ النَّاقَةَ» فَقَامَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، فَلَمَّا وَضَعَ رِجْلَهُ فِي غَرَزِ الرِّكَابِ، وَثَبَّتَ بِهِ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يَا عَلِيُّ إِرْخِ زِمَامَهَا وَابْنُوا عَلَى مَدَارِها فَإِنَّهَا مَأْمُورَةٌ»
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the people of Quba asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to build a mosque for them, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let one of you stand up and mount the she-camel." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up, mounted the she-camel and urged her on, but she did not move, so he came back and sat down. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up, mounted the she-camel and urged her on, but she still did not move, so he too came back and sat down. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his Companions: "Let one of you stand up and mount the she-camel." So Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up, and when he placed his foot in the stirrup and held on firmly, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ali, let her rein loose, and build (the mosque) wherever she circles, for she is under command."
