حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ، وَأُمَّ سَلَمَةَ، تَذْكُرَانِ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَذَكَرَتْ أَنَّ ابْنَةً لَهَا تُوُفِّيَ عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا فَاشْتَكَتْ عَيْنَيْهَا وَهِيَ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تَكْحُلَهَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «قَدْ كَانَتْ إِحْدَاكُنَّ تَرْمِي بِالْبَعْرَةِ عِنْدَ رَأْسِ الْحَوْلِ، وَإِنَّمَا هِيَ أَرْبَعَةُ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا»
It is narrated from Sayyidah Zaynab bint Abi Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she heard Sayyidah Umm Habibah and Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with them both) relating that a woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him that a daughter of hers had lost her husband, and she had a complaint in her eyes, and she wanted to apply kohl to her eyes. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Previously one of you would throw a piece of dung at the end of the year, whereas this is only a waiting period of four months and ten days."
