حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَيَّانَ الرَّقِّيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْجُعْفِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ مُصَرِّفٍ، أَنَّ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، انْتَهَى إِلَى طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ وَقَدْ مَاتَ، فَنَزَلَ عَنْ دَابَّتِهِ وَأَجْلَسَهُ، فَجَعَلَ يَمْسَحُ الْغُبَارَ عَنْ وَجْهِهِ وَلِحْيَتِهِ، وَهُوَ يَتَرَحَّمُ عَلَيْهِ وَيَقُولُ: «لَيْتَنِي مِتُّ قَبْلَ هَذَا الْيَوْمِ بِعِشْرِينَ سَنَةً»
It is narrated from Talhah bin Musarrif (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him) when he had already died. He dismounted from his riding animal, sat him up, and began wiping the dust from his face and beard, and while praying for mercy for him he was saying: "Would that I had died twenty years before this day."
