حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ، ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ح وَثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدُوسِ بْنِ كَامِلٍ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ، قَالَا: ثنا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ، حَدَّثَنِي سِمَاكُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لَهُ: أَكُنْتَ تُجَالِسُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ، وَكَانَ طَوِيلَ الصَّمْتِ»
«وَكَانَ أَصْحَابُهُ يَتَنَاشِدُونَ الشِّعْرَ عِنْدَهُ وَيَذْكُرُونَ أَشْيَاءَ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، وَيَضْحَكُونَ ويَبْتَسِمُ مَعَهُمْ إِذَا ضَحَكُوا»
«وَكَانَ أَصْحَابُهُ يَتَنَاشِدُونَ الشِّعْرَ عِنْدَهُ وَيَذْكُرُونَ أَشْيَاءَ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، وَيَضْحَكُونَ ويَبْتَسِمُ مَعَهُمْ إِذَا ضَحَكُوا»
Simak bin Harb said: I asked Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him): "Did you use to sit in the gatherings of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He said: "Yes, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was often silent."
"And his (peace and blessings be upon him) Companions would recite poetry in his (peace and blessings be upon him) presence and recall things from the days of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah), and they would laugh, and when they laughed he (peace and blessings be upon him) would smile with them."
