حَدَّثَنَا الْبُحْتُرِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الضَّبِّيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهِ وَاحِدَةٌ مِنْ ثَلَاثٍ فَلَا يَحْتَسِبُ بِشَيْءٍ، تَقْوَى يَحْجِزُهُ عَنِ الْمَحَارِمِ، أَوْ حِلْمٌ يَكُفُّ بِهِ عَنِ السَّفِيهِ، أَوْ خُلُقٌ يَعِيشُ بِهِ فِي النَّاسِ»
It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever does not have one of these three qualities, let him not count on anything: God-consciousness (taqwa) that keeps him from forbidden things, or forbearance with which he can restrain himself from the foolish person, or good character by which he can live agreeably among people."
