حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ الطَّائِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ الطَّائِيُّ، ثنا ابْنُ السِّمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ: «جَالَسْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ مِائَةِ مَرَّةٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ يَجْلِسُ أَصْحَابُهُ يَتَنَاشَدُونَ الشِّعْرَ وَرُبَّمَا تَذَاكَرُوا أَمْرَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَيَبْتَسِمُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَعَهُمْ»
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I had the opportunity to sit in the gathering of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the mosque more than a hundred times. His (peace and blessings be upon him) Companions would sit and recite poetry, and at times they would recall matters of the Days of Ignorance, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would smile along with them.
