حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْخَفَّافُ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي السَّائِبُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، عَنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ أَبِي وَدَاعَةَ السَّهْمِيِّ، أَنَّ حَفْصَةَ - زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَتْ: «لَمْ أَرَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي فِي سُبْحَتِهِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ حَتَّى كَانَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَتَوَفَّاهُ اللهُ بِعَامٍ وَاحِدٍ أَوِ اثْنَيْنِ، فَرَأَيْتُهُ يُصَلِّي فِي سُبْحَتِهِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ يُرَتِّلُ السُّورَةَ حَتَّى تَكُونَ أَطْوَلَ مِنْ أَطْوَلَ مِنْهَا» .
Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), says: I did not see the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) pray voluntary prayer sitting, until one or two years before his (peace and blessings be upon him) death, when I saw him (peace and blessings be upon him) praying voluntary prayer sitting; he (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite a surah so slowly and deliberately that its recitation became longer than that of a surah longer than it.
