The Female Companions (may Allah be pleased with them)
قوله ولولا فضل الله عليكم ورحمته في الدنيا والآخرة لمسكم فيما أفضتم فيه عذاب عظيم
His words: "Had it not been for the favour of Allah upon you and His mercy in this world and the Hereafter, you would have been touched by a great punishment for that into which you plunged"
Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 19499 — concerning this verse: And had it not

حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، قَالَ: ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، فِي قَوْلِهِ: {وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِيمَا أَفَضْتُمْ فِيهِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ} ، قَالَ: «هَذَا فِي شَأْنِ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا وَفِيمَا قِيلَ، كَادَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُهْلَكُوا فِيهِ»
Qatadah said concerning this verse: "And had it not been for the favour of Allah upon you and His mercy, you would have been touched by a great punishment because of what you indulged in": This is about the affair of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and what was said; the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were close to being destroyed by it.
