The Female Companions (may Allah be pleased with them)
قوله ولولا فضل الله عليكم ورحمته في الدنيا والآخرة لمسكم فيما أفضتم فيه عذاب عظيم
His words: "Had it not been for the favour of Allah upon you and His mercy in this world and the Hereafter, you would have been touched by a great punishment for that into which you plunged"

حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْغَنِيِّ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الصَّنْعَانِيُّ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ. وَعَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ بْنِ مُزَاحِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، {وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ} [النور: ١٤] : «يُرِيدُ فَلَوْلَا مَا تَفْضَلَّ اللهُ بِهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَسَتَرَكُمْ» ، {لَمَسَّكُمْ فِيمَا أَفَضْتُمْ فِيهِ} : «يُرِيدُ مِنَ الْكَذِبِ» ، {عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ} [النور: ١٤] : «يُرِيدُ لَا انْقِطَاعَ لَهُ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "And had it not been for the favour of Allah upon you and His mercy in this world and the Hereafter" [Surah An-Nur: 14]: meaning had Allah not shown you kindness and concealed your faults, "you would have been touched, because of what you indulged in": meaning because of this lie, "by a great punishment" [Surah An-Nur: 14]: meaning a punishment that would never cease.
