It is narrated from Sayyiduna Afif (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the paternal half-brother of al-Ash'ath bin Qays, that he said: I came to Makkah to buy some of its perfume and fragrance for my family, and I stayed with al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib, who was a merchant. I was with him, the sun had risen, and I was watching, when suddenly a young man came; he turned his gaze about towards the sky, then faced the Ka'bah and fixed his gaze upon it. Shortly afterwards a boy came and stood on his right, then shortly after that a woman came and stood behind the two of them. The young man said the takbir, and the two of them (also) said the takbir; he bowed, and the two of them bowed; he prostrated, and the two of them prostrated. Then (Afif) said: O Abbas! This is a tremendous matter. Al-Abbas said: "It is indeed a tremendous matter. Do you know who this young man is?" I said: No. He said: "This is Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abd al-Muttalib, my nephew. Do you know who this woman is?" I said: No. He said: "This is Khadijah bint Khuwaylid bin Asad bin Abd al-Uzza, the leading lady of the women of Quraysh, the wife of my nephew; and this is Ali bin Abi Talib, my nephew. This nephew of mine claims that his Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, has commanded him with this religion, and by Allah! I do not know anyone on the face of the earth following this religion except these three."
