Sayyiduna Abu al-Zawa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) during the Farewell Hajj. He (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed the people and began saying to them: "Do such-and-such and do such-and-such, and avoid such-and-such things." Then he would say to them: "Have I conveyed?" The people would say: Yes. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would raise both his hands and say: "O Allah, bear witness." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times. And I also heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Take the stipend as long as it is a (genuine) stipend, but when Quraysh fight among themselves for power and the stipend becomes a bribe against your religion, then do not take it."
