حَدَّثَنَا أَسْلَمُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْبَاهِلِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا صِلَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ: «كَانَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَنَاشَدُونَ الشِّعْرَ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْمَعُ»
Simak narrates from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite poetry to one another while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) listened."
