حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ كَرَامَةَ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَعْلَى بْنِ مُرَّةَ، حَدَّثَهُ، عَنْ جَدَّتِهِ حَكِيمَةَ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: «مَنِ الْتَقَطَ لُقَطَةً يَسِيرَةً، ثَوْبًا أَوْ شِبْهَهُ فَلْيُعَرِّفْهُ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ، وَمَنِ الْتَقَطَ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ سِتَّةَ أَيَّامٍ، فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا وَإِلَّا فَلْيَتَصَدَّقْ بِهَا، فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا فَلْيُخْبِرْهُ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ya'la bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever finds a minor lost item, such as a garment or something similar, should announce it for three days, and whoever finds something more (valuable) than that should announce it for six days. Then, if its owner comes, well and good; otherwise he should give it in charity. Then, if its owner comes afterwards, he should inform him."
