حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْفَسَوِيُّ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، ثنا مِهْرَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى، عَنْ أَبِي سَهْلٍ الْأَزْدِيِّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ يَعْلَى، عَنْ يَعْلَى، قَالَ: «حَضَرَتْ صَلَاةٌ مَكْتُوبَةٌ وَنَحْنُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَمَّنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَا يَتَقَدَّمُنَا» ، فَقُلْتُ لِأَبِي سَهْلٍ: مَا دَعَاهُ إِلَى ذَلِكَ، قَالَ: كَانَ الْمَكَانُ ضَيِّقًا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The time for an obligatory prayer came while we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer and did not step ahead of us.
The narrator said: I asked Abu Sahl: "What was the reason for that?" He said: "The place was narrow."
