It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, we are in a land whose inhabitants are People of the Book; they eat pork and drink wine. So what do you command us regarding their pots and their vessels? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you find something other than them (then well and good); otherwise wash them with water, and cook in them and drink."
I said: O Messenger of Allah, we are a people of hunting; the trained dog of one of us comes back with game, and so does his untrained dog, and the arrow of one of us comes back; so what of that may we eat and what should we leave? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever your trained dog brings back to you, when you mentioned the name of Allah on sending it out, eat; and whatever your untrained dog brings back to you, if you found it alive and slaughtered it, mention the name of Allah and eat; and whatever your arrow brings back to you, when you mentioned the name of Allah on shooting it, eat."
He said: O Messenger of Allah, what is not lawful for us? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The domestic donkey and every predator with fangs."
