حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي بُكَيْرٍ، ثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ السَّكَنِ، ثَنَا أَبُو قَحْذَمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَشْعَثِ الصَّنْعَانِيِّ، أَنَّ أَبَا ثَعْلَبَةَ الْخُشَنِيَّ، أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَنَا بِأَرْضٍ أَهْلُهَا أَهْلُ كِتَابٍ يَأْكُلُونَ لُحُومَ الْخَنَازِيرِ وَيَشْرَبُونَ الْخَمْرَ، فَكَيْفَ تَأْمُرُنَا فِي آنِيَتِهِمْ وَقُدُورِهِمْ؟ قَالَ: «إِنَّ وَجَدْتُمْ غَيْرَهَا فَخُذُوهَا وَإِلَّا فَارْحَضُوهَا بِالْمَاءِ ثُمَّ كُلُوا فِيهَا وَاشْرَبُوا»
قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي بِأَرْضِ صَيْدٍ قَالَ: «إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ الْمُكَلَّبَ وَذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللهِ وَقَتَلَ فَكُلْ، وَإِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ الَّذِي لَيْسَ بِالْمُكَلَّبِ فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَ ذَكَاتَهُ فَاذْكُرْ اسْمَ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ وَكُلْ، وَمَا رَدَّ عَلَيْكَ سَهْمُكَ فَاذْكُرْ اسْمَ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ وَكُلْ»
قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا يَحْرُمُ عَلَيْنَا؟ قَالَ: «كُلُّ سَبُعٍ ذِي نَابٍ»
قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي بِأَرْضِ صَيْدٍ قَالَ: «إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ الْمُكَلَّبَ وَذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللهِ وَقَتَلَ فَكُلْ، وَإِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ الَّذِي لَيْسَ بِالْمُكَلَّبِ فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَ ذَكَاتَهُ فَاذْكُرْ اسْمَ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ وَكُلْ، وَمَا رَدَّ عَلَيْكَ سَهْمُكَ فَاذْكُرْ اسْمَ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ وَكُلْ»
قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا يَحْرُمُ عَلَيْنَا؟ قَالَ: «كُلُّ سَبُعٍ ذِي نَابٍ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I am in a land whose inhabitants are People of the Book; they eat pork and drink wine. So what do you command us regarding their vessels and their pots? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you find something other than them, take that; otherwise wash them with water, then eat and drink from them."
He said: O Messenger of Allah, I am in a land of game. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you send out your trained dog and mention the name of Allah, and it kills the game, eat; and when you send out your dog that is not trained, then if you find the game alive and are able to slaughter it, mention the name of Allah over it and eat; and whatever your arrow brings back to you, mention the name of Allah over it and eat."
I said: O Messenger of Allah, what is unlawful for us? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every predator with fangs."
He said: O Messenger of Allah, I am in a land of game. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you send out your trained dog and mention the name of Allah, and it kills the game, eat; and when you send out your dog that is not trained, then if you find the game alive and are able to slaughter it, mention the name of Allah over it and eat; and whatever your arrow brings back to you, mention the name of Allah over it and eat."
I said: O Messenger of Allah, what is unlawful for us? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every predator with fangs."
