It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I shoot with my bow; some game I reach alive in time to slaughter it, and some I do not reach alive. So what of it is lawful for me and what is unlawful? And I am in the land of the People of the Book, and they eat pork from their vessels and drink wine from them; so may I eat and drink from them? He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked me over from head to foot, then said: "Nuwaybah." I said: O Messenger of Allah, is it a good nuwaybah or a bad one? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, a good nuwaybah." Then he said: "Whatever your bow brings back to you, having mentioned the name of Allah over it, eat it; and if you can manage without the vessels of the disbelievers, do not eat from them; and if you cannot manage, wash them thoroughly with water, then eat from them."
