Sayyiduna Wabisah bin Ma'bad al-Asadi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) not wanting to leave out anything concerning righteousness and sin without asking him (peace and blessings be upon him) about it. When I reached him (peace and blessings be upon him), there was a group of Muslims around him (peace and blessings be upon him). I began making my way through them to get close to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and one of them rebuked me and said: O Wabisah! Keep away from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I said: I only wish to get close to him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave Wabisah alone. O Wabisah! Come close to me." He (peace and blessings be upon him) brought me so close that I was right in front of him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you want to ask me, or shall I tell you?" I said: No, rather you tell me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have come to ask about righteousness and sin." I said: Yes. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered his fingers together and began prodding my chest with them, and said: "Righteousness is that with which the soul is content and the heart finds tranquillity, and sin is that which troubles the soul and causes hesitation in the chest, even if people give you whatever rulings they give." Imam al-Tabarani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Those named Walid: Walid bin Uqbah bin Abi Mu'ayt bin Abi Amr bin Umayyah bin Abd Shams bin Abd Manaf, whose kunyah was Abu Wahb. He was the maternal brother of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him); the mother of both of them was Arwa bint Kurayz bin Rabi'ah bin Habib bin Abd Shams, and Arwa's mother was Umm Hakim al-Bayda' bint Abd al-Muttalib, the paternal aunt of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had Uqbah bin Abi Mu'ayt killed on his return from Badr, and Walid was a (young) man in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
